I have friends who are copywriters, editors and writing analysts, and they all make a good living from their words.
But I also have friends who write for quite big magazines, including one who was employed as a staff writer before maternity leave but now works freelance - and even those magazine writer friends complain that it no longer pays a living wage. There are far too many people who are willing to take a lower fee as a side hustle but are also more than capable of writing a competent article for that lower amount! Supply outstrips demand, I think. And technological improvements are both a blessing and a curse.
